Taking a look at Crusito Mieses and Eric Aguilera, who put up two of the top performances on the Halos' farm in 2014.
24. Crusito Mieses, 16, Dominican Summer League. RA-9 WAR: 2.4 FIP WAR: 2.0. 64 IP/ 1.83 ERA / 22% k-rate / 9% BB-rate
He's the only teenager on the list this year, so there's that. And he was really, truly a teen at 16. I don't want to start a hype machine here, because recent arms who've stood out in the Dominican Summer League haven't seen that success translate instantly to stateside ball. Still, he was frigg'n 16, and was the ace of his staff. Baseball America's Bill Mitchell reports that he fluctuates between high 80's and low 90's with a decent fastball, but that he doesn't really have another pitch, so they left him out off of their Angels' top 30 list.
Leaving him off seems bonkers to me. Especially in this system. Give me a seventeen year old with a good fastball, control, and some upside any day.
23. Eric Aguilera, 23, A. 2.4 WAR .291/.340/.438 with 14 HR and 17 SB
The Halos took Aguilera in the 34th round of the 2013 draft, and he fared well enough in his first full pro season. He's got some thump, didn't strikeout excessively, and even picks his spots well on the bases. On the other hand, he didn't walk much and his batted-ball profile was unremarkable. I expect Aguilera to contribute next year, and max out as a solid organizational type.
